WAAN SCHOOL GREETS VISITORS FROM WASHINGTON.
Students of Waan High School cluster around U. S. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Goli Ameri and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Farrell during their visit to Davao City. Beside them are principal Evelyn Ogang and Khalid Lintangi, president of the parent-teacher-community association. The PTCA established a science laboratory for the students with help from the Education Awareness Support Effort (EASE) project of USAID’s Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, which provides grants to match, peso-for-peso, the funds raised by PTCAs to support education improvement projects in their schools, such as libraries, science laboratories, computer laboratories and multi-media resource centers. GEM’s Computer Literacy and Internet Connection (CLIC) program worked with the PTCA to establish computer laboratories with internet connections for both the high school and the elementary school. The GEM Program is implemented under the oversight of the Mindanao Economic Development Council. (GEM)
